Riverton Parke scored nine runs in the final three four innings to beat Clinton Prairie 12-4 and capture the softball regional championship.
The regional title is the 6th in school history for the softball program and first since 2003.
The RP offense was the key to the game as the Lady Panthers banged out 11 hits and took advantage of 6 Clinton Prairie errors to score the 12 runs.
RP jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Haley Chambers reached on an error and scored on double by Sara Dickey.
CP answered with a run in their half of the first to tie the game at 1-1.
RP scored two runs in the 2nd inning, but again CP score twice themselves in the 3rd and after three complete innings the score was tied 3-3.
RP retook the lead with a 3 run 4th inning. Makenzie Haltom started the rally with a double and Sheldan Falls was hit by a pitch to put two runners on. One run scored when Paige Yando’s bunt was thrown away, and Falls and Yando would later score on another error by the Gophers.
RP broke the game open with a 4 run 6th inning. Chambers had an RBI double to plate the first run. A sacrifice fly by Sarah Burnham drove in the second run. Ashley Kinne capped the scoring in the 6th with a two-run homer to center field.
Chambers went the distance allowing only 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out 9 to raise her record to 18-1 on the season.
Chambers, Dickey, Burnham, Haltom, and Yando each had two hits a piece to pace the RP offense.
Riverton Parke (28-2) will return to Clinton Prairie on Saturday for the semi state. The Lady Panthers will face Monroe Central (14-10) in the first game of the day at 10:00 am. That game will be followed by the regional winner at Westville against Whiting (25-6). The winners of the two morning games will face off at 5:00 pm that evening for Semi State Championship.
