Class 1A #2 ranked Riverton Parke captured its second straight softball sectional championship on Wednesday night by beating # 10 ranked North Vermillion 4-1.
This is the 12th sectional championship in softball for Riverton Parke High School.
The Lady Panthers scored two runs in their first at bat. Haley Chambers led off with a walk and scored on a triple by Sara Dickey. Sarah Burnham followed with a sac fly that plated Dickey and RP had a 2-0 lead.
RP added two more runs in the 3rd inning. Chambers started the inning with a double. After a fly out, Burnham picked up another RBI with a triple. Burnham would later score on a wild pitch.
North Vermillion’s run came in the fourth when Casey West led off with a double, moved to third base on passed ball and scored on a RBI ground out by Hannah Chew. West had both of the NV hits in the game.
That was the only run that Chambers would give up as she raised her record to 17-1 on the season. She allowed only two hits and three walks while striking out 14 batters in the game.
Riverton Parke (27-2) will visit Class 1A #8 ranked Clinton Prairie in the Class A regional on Tuesday.
North Vermillion concluded it season with an 18-7 record.
