For the second consecutive year, Riverton Parke and North Vermillion will play for the IHSAA Softball Sectional Title after winning their games on Tuesday night.

In the first game, the Lady Panthers scored twice in the 5th inning and went on to win 3-1 over Rockville.

Riverton Parke went on top of Rockville 1-0 with a run in the bottom of the third. Paige Yando led off by reaching on an error, Haley Chambers followed with a bunt single, Sara Dickey’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners to 2nd and 3rd, and Sarah Burnham’s sacrifice fly allowed Yando to score.

The Rox tied the score with a run in the fourth. Kayla Wilson walked and, one out later, Kelsey Sandusky also walked. Wilson later came home on a wild throw to first.

RP’s two run rally in the 5th was once again started by Yando who reached on a hit by pitch. Chambers double put runners at 2nd and 3rd. Dickey reached on a fielder’s choice as Yando was thrown out at home to again bring up Burnham with two outs. She doubled down the left field line driving in both runners.

That was all RP pitcher Haley Chambers would need. She completed the game allowing only 3 hits and striking out 8 to raise her record to 16-1.

In the second game Covington kept the game close, but North Vermillion was able to pull away late for a 7-0 win.

The Falcons jumped ahead with two unearned runs in the second inning and another unearned run in the 3rd.

Two more NV runs in the fifth made the score 5-0. Miranda Nichols walked, stole second and came home on Jessica Astin’s single. Astin eventually scored on a passed ball.

The Falcons tallied their final two runs in the sixth. Hannah Chew and Tori Kilgore led off with singles. Haley Aukerman singled and stole second to put runners in scoring position, then Nichols reached on an error that allowed two runs to score.

Bethany Chew (five innings) and Hannah Chew (two innings) combined to strike out 11 batters and pitch a three-hit shutout.

Class 1A #10 ranked North Vermillion (18-6) and #2 ranked Riverton Parke (26-2) will play for the sectional championship at 6:00 pm tonight.
