Rockville and Riverton Parke both won their opening games of the IHSAA Sectional on Monday night to set up a match up of teams ranked in Class 1A.

In the first game Turkey Run struck first scoring two runs in the first inning. Kirsten Weaver led off with a double and came around to score on an errant throw an a bunt by Kinsey Spurr. Hailey Cox singled and would later score on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead.

Rockville responded in the home half of the inning as Emma Riffe walked, stole second, and scored on an RBI triple by Kayla Wilson.

Rockville took the lead in the 2nd inning by scoring three runs. With two outs and no one on base, Hayley Doan reached on an infield error and Alise Harper walked. Lindsey Greene ripped an RBI single to tie the game at 2. Riffe followed that hit with a 2 RBI single to give Rockville the lead for good.

The Rox added an insurance run in the 6th as Kelsey Sandusky singled and later scored on a wild pitch.

TR tried to rally in the 7th as Lauren Awbrey singled leading off the inning and Morgan Deplanty reached on an error. Awbrey scored on a single by Spurr and suddenly the potential tying runs were on base with one out. But Wilson induced a ground out and a pop out to end the game.

In the second game of the night Riverton Parke scored three runs in the first inning and was never threatened in beating Attica 12-2.

Mikayla Grindle’s 2 RBI single capped the first inning. RP scored twice in the 2nd and six runs in the 3rd inning. Sara Dickey, Ashley Kinne, and Makenzie Haltom each had RBI hits in the inning.

Kinne led the RP offense with a perfect 4-4 night including a triple while scoring twice and driving in two runs.

Grindle and Haley Chambers each had two hits and scored twice.

Rockville (19-7) and Riverton Parke (25-2) will meet at 5:00 tonight. Following that game Covington will face North Vermillion.
